Amy Lynn Bowser

A young Armstrong County woman was killed yesterday afternoon when she was
trapped under her car, which plunged over a steep embankment on a road west of
Craigsville, as her mother looked on in horror.

Amy Lynn Bowser, 20, the daughter of J. Ray and Shirley Jean (Bowser) Bowser of
Worthington R.D. 2, was killed instantly shortly after noon, Sunday, December
18, 1988.

The car she was driving went over the bank on Ruth Hill Road, a steep dirt road
going west out of the small community of Craigsville. She had just started the
car and her mother was standing near the front of the vehicle. The car had been
parked in front of her home, only a few yards away, and traveled less than 50
feet prior to the accident.

For some unknown reason, the vehicle headed for the embankment. Jumping from the
vehicle, the young woman apparently was hit by the door as she exited and was
thrown downhill, the car coming to rest on her.

Brush and small trees prevented the car from continuing downhill to the railroad
tracks at the bottom of the hill.

Rescue worker from Worthiington-West Franklin Township and East Franklin Fire
Company worked for over an hour to remove the young woman's body. State Police
from the Kittanning station investigated the fatality. Armstrong County Coroner
Robert Bauer pronounced her dead at the scene.

Several Worthington firefighters were at their fire-hall when the call for
assistance came in. Bill Tarr, a Worthington fireman, went ahead with his
winch-equipped pickup truck and used cable to secure the vehicle while rescue
workers raised the car and removed the body. The car sustained minor damage as
it came to rest about 20 feet over the embankment.

Born August 23, 1968, in Kittanning, she was the daughter of J.Ray and Shirley
J. (Bowser) Bowser of Worthington R.D. 2, with whom she lived.

She graduated in 1986 from Lenape Vocational-Technical School in Ford City. She
also graduated from Oak Bridge Academy in New Kensington in 1987, where she was
trained as a medical technician.

She was employed at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital Kittanning, in the
physical therapy department and the central supply department.

Surviving are her parents; a brother, Lonnie Bowser of Worthington R.D. 1; a
sister Beverly, at home, and her maternal grandparents Clarence and Mable
Bowser, of Worthington.
