James Henry Shaffer III

James Henry "Dusty" Shaffer III, 60, of Worthington, died suddenly and
unexpectedly Thursday, September 15, 2011, while doing the thing he loved the
most, camping in Benezette. 

He was born June 25, 1951, in Kittanning, the son of the late James Shaffer II
and Helen (Bruce) Shaffer.

He was a 1969 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington,
Pa. 

He was a lifelong resident of the area. A former owner of Shaffer's Store and
Sporting Goods in Worthington, he was presently employed as a deputy sheriff for
Armstrong County. He was formerly employed as a corrections officer, at Eljer,
as a bus driver, an EMT with WWF Ambulance Service and a current co-owner of GPS
Security Service. 

He was an avid collector of HO Trains. He enjoyed camping and horseback riding.
He was a former baseball and girls basketball couch and a former vice president
of the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League. 

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Linda C. (Shirey) Shaffer; daughter,
Jackie Curtis, of Worthington; sons, James Shaffer, of Worthington, and Jacob
Shaffer and his wife, Denea, of Kittanning; two grandsons, Conner and Cole
Shaffer; brother, Dennis B. Shaffer and his wife, Karen, of Worthington; nephew,
Grant Shaffer; and niece, Courtney Shaffer. 

Friends will be received from 12:30 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the F.
DUANE SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, Worthington, and 10 until the time of services at 11
a.m. Monday in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Worthington, with the Rev.
Lawrence Camberg officiating. 

Interment in Worthington Lutheran Church Cemetery, Worthington, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worthington
Nursing School Fund.
