Alan Lee Cooper

Alan Lee Cooper, 68, of Worthington, Pa., passed away on Sunday, December 17,
2017, at Allegheny General Hospital.

He was born October 15, 1949, to Harold Dean and Jean (Schaub) Cooper.

He was a son, husband, father, grandfather, friend, leader and mentor (and too
many other titles to list).

Alan was a 1967 graduate of Worthington High School.

Upon graduation, Alan worked at Moonlight Mushrooms for 25 years. After the
close of the mushroom farm, Alan returned to school in 1993, at the Pennsylvania
Institute of the Culinary Arts where he flourished at something he loved.

Alan was retired from Torrance State Hospital, where he was a food service
supervisor. Prior to that, he worked at the Armstrong County Jail and Moonlight
Mushrooms for 25 years.

In his free time, Alan could be found fishing, hunting, cooking, or spending
time with his family.

A graduate of the Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts, Cheffy as he was
cordially referred to by his son Steven, could make the best ribs in the world
and made sure that recipe will be shared with no one. It is often said where
there is smoke, there is fire. You could always tell the importance of a meal by
how much smoke was in the house and how many fire alarms had to be set outside
to prevent them from going off. The more, the better!

A leader with BSA Troop 655, Al served in many capacities and ranks in over 25
years of service. His proudest achievements were seeing both of his sons
attained the rank of Eagle Scout. There were also many other fine young men he
would assist in achieving the prestigious rank.

He was notorious for complaining about his rifle scope never being sighted
correctly before buck season began. Usually, this was an omen that he would have
a good season as he rarely missed.

Above all, he loved putting on the Grandpa shirt and hat and spoiling his two
grandkids. From just being there on holidays or taking them every summer, Al
could always be counted on to help, if needed. He was also a member of the Sons
of the American Legion and the Lions of Worthington. He was a member of the
First Baptist Church of Kittanning.

He is survived by his mother Jean Schaub Cooper, a sister Lana (Cooper) Preisach
and husband Karl. Two sons, Steven and Rebecca Cooper and Matthew and Bethany
Cooper. Surviving grandkids are Alexa Masserini and Gavin Cooper. Alan was also
survived by his mother-in-law Mary Ann Kasan and his sister-in-law Nancy (Kasan)
Matarrese and husband John. He leaves behind several cousins, nieces, nephews,
and brothers, and sons of other mothers.

Alan was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 wonderful years Sharleen Ann
Marie Kasan Cooper, his father Harold Dean Cooper, and father-in-law Steve J.
Kasan.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
