Larry John Smith

Larry John Smith of Worthington passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2022, at
the age of 73. Larry died peacefully at ACMH with his beloved wife Susan at his
side. 

Larry was born in Kittanning in July 5, 1948 to the late John Smith and Barbara
(Benton) Smith Scherich. 

He was a 1966 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School and a graduate
of Penn State University. 

He worked as a Millwright, retiring from Allegheny Ludlum. 

He was very active in the community; he served on the council of the Worthington
Evangelical Lutheran Church, was a lifetime member of the Worthington West
Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, and served on the board of the Worthington
West Franklin Water Authority. 

He was a member of Freemasons Local Lodge 805 and 239, Sons of the American
Legion, and Kittanning Elks Lodge 203. 

He was an enthusiastic hobbyist, belonging to the Buffalo Valley Sportsman Club,
American Amateur Radio League, and ABC Beekeepers. 

Larry is survived by his wife Susan of 33 years; sister Amy (Smith) Acosta and
husband Roger of Lehigh Acres, FL; children Randall Smith and wife Tonia of
Lothian, MD, Hedi (Smith) Besters and husband Didier of Keller, TX, and Jackie
(Bowser) Micholas and husband Rob; grandchildren Joshua Smith, Jacob Smith, and
Cameron Besters. 

Larry was preceded in death by his parents John Smith and Barbara (Benton) Smith
Scherich, maternal grandparents Rich and Flora Benton, and paternal grandparents
John and Anna Smith. 

A Masonic service will be held by the family at 6:30 pm on Monday, January 3,
2022, at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home in Worthington. Friends will be
received following the ceremony from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A viewing will be held at
the Worthington Evangelical Lutheran Church on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at
10:00 am with the funeral service to follow at 11:00am with John Wilver
officiating. 

Interment is in the Worthington Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery,
Worthington, PA. 

The family requests that those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a
donation to the Worthington Evangelical Lutheran Church at PO Box 10,
Worthington, PA 16262 in Larry’s name in lieu of flowers.
