Robert James Crawford JR

A young Worthington area veteran who survived six and a half months of the
Vietnam war, was killed early this morning in an automobile accident.

Robert James Crawford Jr., 21, of Worthington R.D. 1, died at 2:15 a.m.  today,
January. 10, 1969, of injuries received in the crash on Route 422, three miles
west of Kittanning, according to Kittanning State Police.

Officers said Crawford was driving west when his car ran into the berm while
rounding a curve, went out of control and flipped over. He was dead on arrival
at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

Damage to Crawford's 1968 coupe was estimated at $2,500.

Crawford, who was known to his friends as "Dump", was discharged from the Army
Sept. 13, 1968. He had spent six and a half months in Vietnam.

Born April 6, 1947, in Kittanning, he was the son of Robert James Crawford and
the late Helen (Marks) Crawford. He had been making his home with an aunt,
Bernice Crawford, of Worthington R.D. 1.

He was a 1965 graduate of Worthington High School.

Cawford was employed by the Logan Clay Products Company, Worthington, and was a
member of the Kittanning Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his father, Robert Crawford Sr.; a brother, Johnny R. Crawford, a
half brother, Scotty and a half sister, Pamela, all at home.

Friends of Robert James "Dump" Crawford Jr., of Worthington R.D. 1, who died
Friday, Jan. 10, 1969, will be received at the James A. Flick Funeral Home,
Worthington, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday
and Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday from the funeral
home, with the Rev. Earl Kennedy, pastor of McKee Chapel, officiating. 

Burial will be in Worthington Lutheran Church Cemetery, Worthngton, Pa.
