Donald Paul Collar

Donald Paul "Jake" Collar, 70, of Cowansville, Pa., formerly of Freeport, Pa.,
died Friday, August 15, 2014, in Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot, Pa.

Born May 6, 1944, in Meadville, Pa., he was a son of the late Richard Glenn and
Charlotte Avonel (Shankle) Collar.

Jake was a 1963 graduate of Worthington High School, Worthington, Pa.

He was a Vietnam War veteran, having served with the Army as a mechanic
specialist 5, and served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. Before enlisting, he did
independent trucking with his father and then worked at Allegheny Ludlum in
Brackenridge, Pa., where he retired after 29 years with the position of safety
foreman. After retirement, he worked for Clepper Bus Co. (Cowansville/Slate
Lick, Pa.). He was also the 2nd generation owner and operator of the Burnt Ridge
Campground in Cowansville.

On August 27, 1966, Jake married his wife, the former Miss Bonnie Mohney in
Freeport. She preceded him in death, March 30, 2013. His memberships include the
Freeport Area Historical Society (founding member and former president of) the
Freeport VFW No. 6648 (where he was a lifetime member and former vice commander
and also initiated the annual retiring of the flag ceremony and planning group
that started the Memorial Day service), Worthington Lions Club, Henry S. Weaver
Camp No. 71 (Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War) and received
classification from the Alzheimer's Association as a spokesperson and informer.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worthington and attended
Harrisville Methodist Church and Freeport Presbyterian Church. He was a fan of
the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins, as well as a Willy's Jeep enthusiast and
also had an interest in aviation and flying.

He is survived by three sons, Todd Eric Collar, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Patrick A.
Collar, of Cowansville, and Jeffrey Paul Collar, of Cowansville; three
grandchildren, Jeffrey Paul Collar Jr., Mahala Collar and Christopher Eagleton;
sister, Susan "Susie" Jane (David) Jack, of Venice, Fla.; brother, Gary Dennis
(Sue) Collar, of Butler, Pa.; and sister-in-law, Barbara Collar, of Cabot, Pa.

Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry
Brett Collar and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 1 to
4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the F. DUANE SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, in Worthington.
Additional viewing will be held from noon to 1 p.m., the time of services,
Monday at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Worthington, with the Rev. James Higgins
officiating.

Interment will be held in Worthington Lutheran Church Cemetery, Worthington,
Pa.
