Robert Frank Guminey

Two teenagers from Worthington were killed and the young driver of the car in
which they were riding was injured when the vehicle slammed into a telephone
pole alongside Route 422, three and three-tenths miles west of Kittanning, at
9:45 p.m. last night, Sunday, December 29th, 1957.

The crash occurred just after the car had gone over the brow of a hill, scene of
numerous crashes, and started down a steep grade on the far side.

The dead youths were James Kerr, 17, and Robert Guminey, 16, both of
Worthington.

Young Kerr died at the scene of the accident, and the Guminey boy was dead on
arrival at the hospital. The Armstrong County coroner said both youths died of
fractured skulls.

The driver of the car, Edward Lewis, 19, also of Worthington, is listed in fair
condition in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning with multiple
contusions and abrasions.

State Trooper Pete Nodianis said Lewis was driving west, toward Worthington,
when his car went off the right side of highway, sheared off a telephone pole
and overturned on the roadway. Damage to the 1957 coupe was estimated at $2,000
and demolished.

The crash knocked out toll service between Butler and Kittanning. Emergency
calls were being routed through Gibsonia by Peoples Telephone Corporation
operators this morning.

The bodies of both youths were taken to the Walker Funeral Home in Worthington.
