Ray S Alwine

Ray S. Alwine, 70, of Rural Valley died Sunday, August 4, 2002.

He was born March 5, 1932 in Windber to Ray S. Sr. and Ruth (Wirick) Alwine.

Mr. Alwine was a teacher at Ferndale Area High School, in the Armstrong School
District in the space science travel lab and at Ford City High School, retiring
in 1992.

A Navy veteran, he served after graduation from Richland High School in 1950 to
1955.

He received a degree in secondary education in science from Indiana University
of Pennsylvania and a master's of education from Penn State University in 1965.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rural Valley, serving on church
council and teaching Sunday school.

He also served as an IRP for Citizens Ambulance, Rural Valley.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and camping.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Twila (Fitzpatrick) Alwine; three sons,
Ed Alwine, Roger Alwine and Troy Alwine; one daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Kym) Christy;
seven grandchildren; his mother, Ruth Alwine of Johnstown; two brothers, Ron
Alwine of Johnstown and Robert Alwine of Murrysville; and three sisters, Lavone
Adams and Shirley Moyer, both of Johnstown and Janie Markum of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his father; one grandson, Brian Edward Alwine; and
one brother, Kenneth Alwine.

Friends of Ray S. Alwine, 70, of Rural Valley, who died Aug. 4, 2002, will be
received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Carson/Boyer Funeral Home,
724 Main St., Rural Valley. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11
a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church, Rural Valley with guest pastor, the
Rev. Kenneth Rudkin of Hope Lutheran Church, Homer City, officiating. 

Burial will be in Rural Valley Cemetery, Rural Valley, Pa. 

The family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Laube Cancer
Center, Kittanning or VNA Hospice, Ford City.
