Richard Bernard McGrady

Richard Bernard McGrady, 68, of Worthington, passed into eternal life with his
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, March 5, 2011, in Allegheny General
Hospital, Pittsburgh. 

He was born July 27, 1942, to Bernard D. and Esther I. (Minteer) McGrady, and
was a lifelong resident of Worthington. 

Richard was a 1959 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High Schooland went on
to complete his degree at Clarion State College, where he was the MVP of the
Clarion baseball team during his senior season. 

He served for 40 years in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve, during which
time Lt. Col. McGrady served at SOCEUR in Stuttgart, Germany, and at Special
Operations Command in Seoul, South Korea. He also served as a chaplain's
assistant, and was currently serving with the Family Readiness Group in Butler.


Mr. McGrady was also a retired math teacher in the Armstrong School District and
was currently teaching physical education at Grace Christian School in West
Kittanning. He played and coached numerous sports throughout his life and
impacted many athletes. Richard was a committed and active member of Bright Hope
Community Church in Butler, where he faithfully served in various ministries. He
enjoyed spending time with his family; farming and gardening; watching, playing
and coaching sports; supporting the Pro-Life cause; reading his Bible; and
sharing his faith in Jesus Christ with people everywhere. 

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen E. (Grafton) McGrady; a daughter,
Andrea B. and R. Scott Petras, of Worthington; and a son, Christopher R. and
Justi D. McGrady, of Butler. He was a beloved pappy to his seven grandchildren,
Brandon, Joshua, Erica and Michael Petras, and Gavin, Mia and Josi McGrady. He
is also survived by a sister, Jean (D. Carlton) Simmers, and two brothers,
Ronald McGrady and James (Debbie) McGrady, all of Worthington; and by many
nephews and nieces, whom he loved. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard D. and Esther I. (Minteer)
McGrady; and by a son, Nathan Daniel McGrady. 

Friends will be received from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the F. DUANE SNYDER FUNERAL
HOME, 119 Bear St., Worthington. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11
a.m. Wednesday in Grace Brethren Church, West Kittanning, with the funeral
service following at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul Hoover officiating. 

Interment will be in Worthington Lutheran Church Cemetery, Worthington, Pa. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Bright
Hope Community Church (Bright House Fund), 4101 Highland Ave., Butler, PA 16001
and to Grace Christian School, 215 Arthur St., Kittanning, PA 16201.
