Donald Richard Vensel

Dr. Donald Richard Vensel, 66, of Tarpon Springs, died Sunday, July 22, 2001 at
Sewickley Valley Hospital, Sewikley, Pa.
 
He was born May 3, 1935 in Kittanning, Pa., to Charles E. and Alice May (Bowser)
Vensel.
 
Donald graduated in 1953 from Worthington-West Franklin High School,
Worthington, Pa.
 
He attended Thiel College and University of South Florida and earned his masters
and doctorate degrees at California State University, Los Angeles, where he was
a teacher and administrator for 20 years and in 1994 was presented a Lifetime
Achievement Award from the California Teachers Association.
 
He moved to Tarpon Spring, Florida in 1997 from Sewickley, Pa. He was a singer
and received many awards in Pennsylvania as a baritone soloist. He sang on radio
and appeared on television in Pittsburgh. He was choir director and organist in
several Pittsburgh area churches and while at Thiel College he sang in the
touring A Capella Choir and was a supply minister for area churches.
 
He also worked as an accountant for the engineering department of Ohio State
University, owned and operated clothing stores, a linen shop, a floral design
store and a restaurant, and he worked as an interior decorator, a licensed
barber and hair stylist, a Realtor and a model.
 
Locally, he worked for Publix in Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs. He was a member
of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church.
 
Survivors include his cousin, Dr. Edgar C. Wilson, Tarpon Springs; an uncle,
Harold Vensel; a sister-in-law, Ruth I. (Cowen) Vensel; a nephew, Gregory David
Vensel; a niece, Kimberly Vinet Jahn; a great-nephew, Garrett Gregory Vensel and
great-niece Lindsey Vinet Jahn.
