James Robert Shearer

James Robert Shearer, 87, of Kittanning died on Monday, September 27, 2021, in
ACMH Hospital.  

He was born on July 27, 1934, in Worthington to the late Albert & Bessie
(Ruffaner) Shearer.  

He was a 1953 graduate of Worthington West Franklin High School, Worthington,
PA.  

He then proudly served active duty in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959
and then reserve duty 1959-1963.  

Bob retired as a toolmaker from Magnetics, Inc. in 1998 with 42 ½ years of
service. 

Bob was a member of the Worthington Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon,
director of Vacation Bible School, Youth Group Director, Awana leader, and was
instrumental in remodeling the church and parsonage buildings. 

His other memberships included Worthington Lions Club for 54 ½ years and served
as president and chairman of numerous other committees, Melvin Jones Fellowship
of Lions International, Member of District 14-N Honor Roll of Lions, and the
Armstrong RC Flyers. 

He was a former member of the Worthington West Franklin Fire Department, the
Worthington Water Authority, where he served as president, and served on a
committee of 3 that procured the water system for Ponderosa Heights. He was also
a former member of the Alamo Squares Dance Club and he managed a Worthington
Little League Team. 

He enjoyed woodworking, he made and gave away hundreds of toaster tongs,
watching sports, traveling, hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, and spending
time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife and high school sweetheart,
Shirley (Bowser) Shearer whom he married on June 9, 1956; children- Carla
(Ralph) Hardt, of Valencia, and Brian (Sherry) Shearer of Ellwood City;
grandchildren- Megan (Jonathan) Allison, Aryn Roofner and fiancé Alex Wettach,
Nicholas Shearer and fiancé Cagney McCarty, Jillian Shearer, and Cassidy
Shearer; great-grandchildren- Silas, Ira, and Juniper Allison & another baby
Allison on the way; and a brother, Richard Shearer of Washington, PA.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John, Albert,
Kenneth, Vernon, and Alton, and sisters, Annabel Lash, Doris Lash, Ethel Nichol,
Eyvette Shearer, and Melda Bricker. 

Masks are required to attend the viewing and funeral services for Mr. Shearer.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 30, 2021, in the F.
Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington, PA 16262 from 5:00-8:00
p.m.  Additional viewing will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021, in the
Worthington Baptist Church from 10:00am until time of services at 11:00am with
Pastor Dan Basham officiating. 

Burial will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, PA.
