Vincent Aloysious Burke

Vincent Aloysious Burke, 72, of Butler died Saturday, December 16,2006 evening
at his home.

Born in Worthington, June 10, 1934, he was the son of William and Frances
(Ritzert) Burke.

He was a 1952 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington,
Pa.

He graduated from Indiana (Pa.) University in 1962 with a degree in secondary
education. He went on to received a master's degree in geography from IUP in
1965 and a master's degree in school administration from Westminster College in
1975.

Mr. Burke was employed by the Butler School District for 34 years. He taught
geography and general science at the Butler Junior High School for 16 years. He
went on to serve as assistant principal at the junior high for four years and
was the principal there for 14 years until his retirement in 1996.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 117,
the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge and the National and Pennsylvania
Secondary Principals associations.

He also was a commentator at Sunday Mass at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical
Center.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Lavorini Burke, to whom he was married for 41
years; a son, Michael V. Burke of Butler; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Cindy)
Savarino of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Mrs. Andy (Marne) Hornsby of Salisbury, N.C.,
and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Leo and three sisters,
Margaret Smith, Monica Moore and Dephine Zerishnek.

BURKE - Friends of Vincent A. Burke, who died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, will be
received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Martin Funeral Home, 429
Center Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at
St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. 

Burial will be at the St. Michael Cemetery, Butler, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Cancer Institute,
Bethesda, Md., or to the VNA Hospice, Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.

The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 9:35 a.m.
Friday at the church.
