Robert Eugene Crawford

Robert Eugene Crawford, age 81 of Marianne Estates died suddenly of a massive
heart attack on July 14, 2012 at his "favorite place", their cottage on Lake
Couchiching, Ontario.

He was born on May 16, 1931 to the late Vaughn and Vivian M. (Carr) Crawford in
Punxsutawney, PA.
 
He was a 1949 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington,
PA. He received his bachelor's degree in geography at Slippery Rock University
and his master's degree at University of Pittsburgh. He has done additional
studies at University of Washington.

He joined Clarion University in 1962 as a professor of geography. Crawford
developed the cartography program at the University. He was named director of
the physical plant in 1970 and retired as Vice President of Administration at
Clarion University in 1991.

His hobbies include gardening, working with his hands, building everything
imaginable, reading, sailing and skiing and building boat models.

Surviving is his wife Dorothy F. (Simms) Crawford of 60 years, two daughters,
Deborah Crawford Poyner and her husband Raymond of Grand Rapids, MI, Beth
Crawford Smith and her husband Andrew of Pittsburgh, two grandchildren, Neil
Poyner of Denver, CO and Caroline Crawford Smith of Pittsburgh. He is also
survived by one brother, Josef Carr Crawford of Brooksville, FL; two sisters,
Helen M. Smith of Bonita Springs, FL, and Nancy L. Bauer of CA.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Ruth Ann Ditullio, July
23, 1964.

According to his wishes, there will be no visitation and memorial services will
be private. the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion was in charge of
arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the Robert E.
Crawford Scholarship, Clarion University Foundation, 840 Wood St, Clarion, PA.
