Barbara Elizabeth Benton Smith Scherich
Barbara Elizabeth Benton Smith Scherich, 82, of Worthington, died Monday, March
14, 2011, in the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.
She was born January 26, 1929, in Worthington, to the late Richard and Flora
(Kerr) Benton.
She attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa.
She married Duane Scherich in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Feb. 4, 1989.
Her lifelong church affiliation was with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
Worthington and she was a member of the order of Eastern Star Loyalty Chapter
309 in Cape Coral, Fla. A member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America,
Chapter 48, in Fort Myers, Fla.
She is survived by a son, Larry, of Worthington; a daughter, Amy Sue Acosta, of
Cape Coral, Fla.; two grandchildren, Randall D. Smith and Heidi Besters; and
three great-grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Jacob Smith and Cameron Besters; and
one sister, Lenore Henry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Scherich; her first husband,
John Smith Jr.; her parents and her brother, Richard Benton.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the F.
DUANE SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, Worthington. Services will be held at 11 a.m.
Thursday in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Worthington, where there will be
one hour of additional viewing prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Worthington Lutheran Church Cemetery, Worthington, Pa.,
where her church pastor, the Rev. Larry Camberg, will officiate.
