Robert James Blake

Robert "Bob" James Blake, 81, of 447 Smith Road, Perry Township, died Saturday,
August 9, 2008 at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born December 27, 1927, in Homestead (Allegheny County), the son of
Monroe T. and Lydia S. (Bell) Blake.

He attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa. 

He married Constance "Connie" Detman May 19, 1951. She survives.

He was last employed as a plant engineer for Columbia Iron and Metal, Girard,
Ohio. He was also employed at Mercer Alloys, Greenville, as maintenance manager.
In his earlier years, he was employed in maintenance at steel mills and coal
mines.

He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the Pacific area.

He was of the Protestant Faith.

He was an avid hunter and fisher at his camp at Tidioute, Pa., and was captain
of his boat, Queen Bee, which enjoyed at Lake Erie and Kinzua. He could repair
most items and built a merry-go-round and airplane ride for his grandchildren.
In his earlier years, he umpired Little League baseball in the Hadley area. He
loved his family and his Labrador retriever, Kate.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert J. Blake Jr. and
his wife, Priscilla, of South Boston, Va., Michael E. Blake and his wife,
Linnea, of Butler, Ohio, and Roger K. Blake of Corry, Pa.; two daughters, Mrs.
Robert (Susan M.) Ross of Apollo, Pa., and Loretta J. Becker of Adamsville; a
son-in-law, Howard Becker of Hadley; two sisters, Bertha Smith of Hastings, Pa.;
and Mary O. Davis of Ebensburg, Pa.; 14 grandchildren, Sarah Blake, Jeff Blake,
Josh Blake, Jennifer Blake, Justin Blake, Nick Blake, Meg Blake, Jacob Blake,
Emily Blake, Carrie Kramer, Megan Gay, Keith Becker, John Becker, and Bob Ross;
two great-grandchildren; and a step-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Russell B. Blake and
Kenneth B. Blake.

Friends of Robert "Bob" J. Blake Sr., 81, of 447 Smith Road, Perry Township who
died Aug. 9, 2008 will be received today, Monday, Aug. 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 p.m. at the Andrew J. Vana Funeral Home, 102 Church St., Hadley. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Ken DePeal, pastor of
Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church, officiating.

Interment will be at Hadley Cemetery, Hadley, Pa.
