Jean Marie Shick Irwin

Jean Marie Shick Irwin, 78, of Fairview Road, Petrolia, died at 4:55 p.m.
Monday, April 17, 2006, in Butler Hospital following an illness.

Born October 19, 1927, in Mayport, she was the daughter of Richard and
Esther (Alworth) Shick. Following the death of her mother in 1929, she
was raised by her late aunt, Helen I. Alworth of Eldorado, Parker RD
3.

She attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa. 

She was a 1946 graduate of Bruin High School.

Mrs. Irwin was a member of the Fairview UP Church.

She was a 1949 graduate of Butler Hospital School of Nursing and was a
member of the Butler Hospital Nurses Association. She first was
employed for several years in the operating room of the Butler
Hospital and then was employed for 11 years as Dr. Clinton Coulter's
nurse in his Parker office. After raising her own family, she was
employed as a registered nurse in the maternity department of the
Butler Hospital for 19 years, retiring in 1989.

Mrs. Irwin enjoyed collecting paper weights and decks of playing cards
from all over the world.

She was married in the Fairview UP Church Sept. 2, 1950, to Laird
Irwin, who survives. Also surviving are a son and his wife, Dayne A. and Cynthia
F. Irwin of Petrolia; and three grandchildren, Chaz Romo Irwin, Shardae Marie
Irwin and Chase Dayne Irwin, all of Petrolia.
She also is survived by two half brothers, Richard Shick and wife,
Mary Lou, of Pittsburgh and Dale Shick and wife, Mary, of Lock Haven;
a brother-in-law, Bernard Lawrence of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a half
sister, Carol Shick Whitney and husband, Doug, of Stuart, Fla.; one
niece, Barbara Weiser and husband, James, of Amherst, N.Y.; and a
nephew, Kenneth Lawrence of Acworth, Ga.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Irwin was preceded in death by a son,
Laird "Larry" Irwin in 1996 and one sister, Dolores Lawrence.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Richard
D. Hillis Funeral Home in Petrolia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home
with the Rev. Richard R. Rowe, pastor of the Fairview UP Church, and
the Rev. Robert Miller, lay minister, officiating.

Interment will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia, Pa.

Memorial donations may be made to the Fairview UP Church or to the
Petrolia and North Washington Volunteer Fire Departments.
