Walter Laverne Smith

Walter Laverne Smith of Lake City passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 at Munson
Medical Center in Traverse City. He was 81 years old.

He was born November 28, 1928 to King and Sadie (Cline) Smith in Armstrong
County, Pa.

He was a 1946 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington,
Pa. 

He married the former Olive Kay Cogley November 8, 1952. She preceded him in
death January 25, 2002.

Walter was a veteran serving in the Korean War. Walter worked as a tool and die
maker for Kelsey-Hayes in Romulus for more than 30 years. Upon retirement, they
moved to the Lake City area.

Walter loved fishing, hunting, working on his lawn, doing puzzles and going to
the casino. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He was a member of the
American Legion Post No. 300 and member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake
City.

He is survived by his beloved friend, Nancy Trevorrow; his three children, Holly
(Larry) Morris of Brighton, Laurie Patton and Mark Smith, both of Wyandotte;
grandchildren: Heather, Brad, Bryan, Derek, Erika, Kristin, Karla and Michael;
great-grandchildren, Alexis, Alicia, Connor, Madison and Alivia.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Margaret, Leona and
Bertha; brothers: Howard, Leroy, Arthur, Floyd, Merle, Harold, Elmer and
Kenneth.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
