Worthington Man Crushed Under High-lift, Dies

A Worthington area man died yesterday morning when he was crushed under the
high-lift he was operating.

Carl Noble "Dutch" Adams, 54, of Worthington R.D. 2, was operating a high-lift
at a limestone strip mine in West Franklin Township, Armstrong County, when the
accident occurred at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 1980, according to
Kittanning State Police.

Police said that Adams apparently dismounted from the high-lift while it was
operating, and fell under the right front wheel.

Adams was pronounced dead at the scene by Armstrong County Coroner Robert Welsh.
Cause of his death was a chest and pelvis.

He was employed by Penn-Dixie Cement Corporation of West Winfield.

Born April 7, 1926, in West Franklin Township, Adams was the son of Alva A. and
Stella (Bowser) Adams.

He attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, PA.

A veteran of World War II, he had served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific
theater.

He was a member of Worthington Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel E. (Bowser) Adams; three sons, Thomas J. Adams of
Parker R.D. 2, Terry L. and Ronald E., both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Stanley
(Blanche) Kostielney of Detroit, Mich., and M. Rose Wright of Butler; and a
grandson.

He was preceded him in death by his parents, a son. three brothers, Albert,
George, and Frank; and one sister, Florence Staron..

Friends of Carl N. "Dutch" Adams of Worthington R.D. 2, who died Tuesday, Oct.
21, 1980, will be received at the James A. Flick Funeral Home, Worthington, from
7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and at the
church for an hour before services. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Friday from Worthington Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Herbert
Dubier, vice-pastor, officiating. 

Burial will be in the Worthington Lutheran Church Cemetery, Worthington, Pa.
