Lois Irene Leard Smith

Lois Irene Leard Smith, 90, formerly of Rising Sun Road, Millersburg passed away
on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 in Londonderry Village of Palmyra. 

She was born November 3, 1926 in Yellow Dog, a small village near Worthington,
PA to the late James and Gladys (Skinner) Leard. 

She was a graduate of Worthington High School, class of 1944 and the Grace
Martin Secretarial School in Pittsburgh. After graduation, she worked as a
secretary in Pittsburgh and Kittanning.

On July 7, 1948, she married A. Ronald Smith and they celebrated 64 years
together before his death in 2013. 

As a minister's wife, she faithfully served alongside her husband in Baptist
congregations in Slippery Rock, Downingtown, Muncy, and McVeytown. 

Upon retirement, they settled in Millersburg, where she resided until 2015. She
was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, always committed to
missions and women's ministries. 

She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family. She was
a beloved mother, grandmother and friend with a devotion to her faith in the
Lord that created a wonderful legacy for her family. 

She is survived by a son, Alan Smith (Lorraine) of Ambler; daughter, Karen
McCloskey (Roy) of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Jessica Fisher (Sam), Rachel
Grimm (Jason), Aaron Smith, Shannon Scaletti (Anthony), Liam Smith (Anne), Joel
Snodgrass (Lindsey), Evan Smith, Patrick McCloskey (Jessica); and six
great-grandchildren, Jude, Audrey, August, Cecelia, Leo, and Kellan.

She was preceded in death by her husband , A. Ronald; daughter, Marcia
Snodgrass; grandson, Ian McCloskey, and her four siblings, Helen Kromer, Ruby
Leard, Donald Leard and Paul Leard.

She is survived by a son, Alan Smith (Lorraine) of Ambler; daughter, Karen
McCloskey (Roy) of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Jessica Fisher (Sam), Rachel
Grimm (Jason), Aaron Smith, Shannon Scaletti (Anthony), Liam Smith (Anne), Joel
Snodgrass (Lindsey), Evan Smith, Patrick McCloskey (Jessica); and six
great-grandchildren, Jude, Audrey, August, Cecelia, Leo, and Kellan.

Visitation will be from 9:30am until 10:30am Saturday, November 11th at
Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. A funeral service will follow at 11am
in the Chapel of Peace, Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.

Internment in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill, Pa.
