Hazel Marie Shields VanDyke, 65, of 101 Hill Road, (South Buffalo Township)
Freeport, Pa., died Thursday, January 5, 1989, at Armstrong County Memorial
Hospital (East Franklin Township), Kittanning, Pa.

She was born March 26, 1923, in Kittanning to Grace Anderson (Wray) and Alfred
Boyd Shields.

She attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa.

Mrs. VanDyke was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeport, Pa.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Nora L. Keim and Mrs. William (Karen K.)
Waldenville, both of South Buffalo Township, Mrs. Diane Ratcliffe of Las Vegas,
Nev., and Mrs. Thomas (Nancy Lee) Craig, also of South Buffalo Township; five
sons, Herbert D. VanDyke of Wichita, Kan., James VanDyke of Kittanning, Pa.,
David E. VanDyke of Cowansville, Pa., Larry H. VanDyke of Haddonfield, N.J., and
Thomas M. VanDyke of Worthington, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Raymond (Margaret)
Claypoole of Worthington; four brothers, Raymond Alfred Shields Sr., James
Arthur Shields and Carl Eugene Shields all of Worthington, and Robert C. Shields
of Chicora, Pa.; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale C. VanDyke, who died December 6,
1988; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Weister, who died in 1974; and one sister,
Janet I. Shields and three infant siblings.

Friends of Hazel Marie Shields VanDyke, 65, of 101 Hill Road, South Buffalo,
died Thursday, January 5, 1989, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Richard L. Redmond Funeral Home, Sixth and
High, Freeport, Pa., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with
the Rev. Paul N. Frank Jr., pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Freeport, Pa.
