Adam Emerson Ray

Adam Emerson Ray, 73, of Butler, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at
Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born December 7, 1924, in Nichola, near Worthington, in Armstrong County, he was
the son of James and Mary (Lamison) Ray.

He was a 1943 graduate of Worthington High School and retired as an electrician
at Pangborn Industries, Butler.

Mr. Ray was a member of the First Methodist Church, VFW Post 249, Butler Moose
Lodge 64, American Legion Post 117, Masonic Lodge 769, Slovak Society,
Sinnamahoning Sportsman's Club, Local 4399 of the United Steelworkers of America
and the USA Bird Watchers Association of Emporium.

During World War II, he served with the Navy in the South Pacific Campaign.

He is survived by his wife, Leonabelle (Hinton) Ray, whom he married July 25,
1947; a daughter, Mrs Harry (Mary) Meier of Harrisville; four sons, Walter Ray
of Superior, Wyo., Brian and Herbert Ray, both of Butler, and Larry Ray of East
Brady; four sisters, Sara Ellenberger of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Ken (Martha)
Ellenberger of Chicora, Mrs. Chalmer (Bernice Jean) Maley of Inverness, Fla. and
Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Hardies of Annapolis, Md.; six brothers, Wilbert Ray and
William Ray of Fenelton, George and Perry Ray, both of Butler, Dr. Richard Ray
of Indiana, Pa. and Donald Wayne Ray of Poland, Ohio; six grandchildren; and a
great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Couch and a brother, James Herbert.

Friends of Adam E. Ray, who died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, will be received from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St.,
Butler. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev.
David Wilson, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.

The Butler Moose Lodge will conduct services at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral
home.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler, Pa.
