Blair Eugene Black

Blair Eugene "Gene" Black, 79, of Valparaiso, Ind., formerly of Worthington,
died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Porter Memorial Hospital. 

He was born August 16, 1924 in Worthington to Walter Glenn and Ruth Olive (King)
Black.

He attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa. 

Mr. Black was a retired supervisor and foreman from Bethlehem Steel since 1983.
He also was a courier for Northern Indiana Bank from 1983-1988. 

A veteran, he served during World War II. 

His memberships included the Cornerstone Masonic Lodge 1176 in Hamburg, N.Y.,
where he was a long-time member. 

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. 

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann (Olinger) Black, whom he
married March 15, 1952; two sons, Kenneth Black of Racine, Wis. and Brian Black
of Valparaiso; two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Pamela) Jarnecke of Kouts, Ind. and Mrs.
Dennis (Lisa Black) Wiesjahn of Valparaiso; six grandchildren, Brent Jarnecke,
Laura French, Bonner Fenner, Nathan Black, Alissa Black and Amy Black; and three
great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Walter E. Black; two
granddaughters, Jennifer Lynne Jarnecke and Rebecca (Black) Hunstiger; one
brother; and two sisters. 

Funeral services with his cousin, the Rev. E. Duane King, officiating, and
military honors were held in Valparaiso.

The family requests memorial con-tributions may be made to the Shriners
Hospitals for Children.
