Walter Raymond Anthony

Walter Raymond Anthony, 61, of Fenelton, RD 1, died Friday evening, December 13,
1985, in the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

Born April 13, 1924, in West Franklin Township, he was a son of Chart Ezra and
Helen Dora (Bowser) Anthony.

He attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Worthington. He also
belonged to the Buffalo Valley Beagle Club, Worthington American Legion, and
Kittanning VFW.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army, during which he received
a Purple Heart.

Mr. Anthony was an employee of the Veterans Administration Hospital, Butler,
where he was a labor foreman for 30 years, retiring in 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Helen (Roesler) Anthony; two brothers, C. Norman of
Craigsville and Glenn A. of Worthington; and four sisters, Mrs. Dale (Alice M.)
Miller of Butler, Mrs. Irwin (Jane E.) Bowser of Worthington, Mrs. Robert (Helen
R.) Leiner of Seminole, Fla., and Mrs. Charles (Leona Mae) Shearer of Memphis,
Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Francis A. and Victor;
and a sister, Mrs. Hazel I. Hawk. 

Friends of Walter Raymond Anthony, 61, of Fenelton, RD 1, who died Friday, Dec.
13, 1985, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. and
7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home (formerly Flick Funeral
Home), Worthington. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Monday in the
Evangelical Lutheran Church with his pastor, the Rev. Donald Worth, officiating.


Burial will be in the Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, Pa.

1944: Germany WW II

Rural Worthington Soldier is Wounded

Mr. and Mrs. Chart E. and Helen Anthony of Worthington, R.D. 2 received a
telegram from the War Department  on Wednesday morning, December 20, 1944
informing them that their son, Corporal Walter R. Anthony, had been slightly
wounded on December 5, while in action in Germany. The parents were told they
would be kept informed of any news received from their son. Corporal Anthony
entered the service on January 27, 1943, received his training at Camp Hood,
Tex., and left for overseas in January 1944. His brother, Sgt Francis A.
Anthony, who entered the service on October 27, 1941, is presently stationed in
France.

Mr. and Mrs. Chart Anthony of Worthington, R.D. 2 received a letter on Tuesday
from their son, Corporal Walter R. Anthony. In his letter, Cpl. Anthony informed
his parents that he suffered a broken leg, above the knee, when struck by a
piece of shrapnel on December 5, 1944. His buddy received a broken arm at the
same time. They were sleeping in a fox hole when struck by the missile. He is at
present in a hospital in France.
