Robert Dawes Ruth SR

Robert Dawes Ruth Sr., 80, Shillington, Pa. died Monday, April 11, 2005 at 7:49
p.m. in the emergency room at Reading Hospital, Reading, Pa.

Born, December 24, 1924, in Vandergrift, Pa. (Westmoreland County), he was a son
of the late William James and Bertha Rebecca (Reed) Ruth.

He was a 1942 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, (Armstrong
County), Worthington, Pa.

He was the husband of Ruth S. (Tothero) Ruth.

Ruth was employed for 21 years as a power engineer by Armour & Co., Reading,
until its closing in 1972 and was last employed for 12 years as a power engineer
by Stroh's Brewery, Fogelsville, Pa. (Lehigh County), retiring in 1989.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mohnton, Pa. where he was a
former councilman, served on the property committee and was an usher.

Ruth was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.

Ruth was scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 282, Reading, from 1950 to 1963 and was
cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 204, Shillington, from 1963 to 1966. He was
scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 221, Shillington, from 1967 to 1969.

He was neighborhood unit commissioner of Hawk Mountain Council from 1969 to
1976. Ruth was a troop chaperone to Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, N.M., in
1971.

Ruth was a member of the Order of the Arrow.

He was a life member of the Keystone Fire Company, Shillington.

Ruth also is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ruth-Williams, Burbank, Calif.; and
a son, Robert D. Ruth Jr., (Spring Township) Reading.

Other survivors include a sister, Gayle E. (Ruth) Woods, Kent, Wash.; and two
brothers, Charles Leroy Ruth of Akron, Ohio, and Thomas F. Ruth of Sarasota,
Fla.

There also are four grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. April 14, 2005 in St. John's Lutheran
Church, Mohnton. 

Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton, Pa.
