William Amos Croyle

William Amos Croyle, 76, of 706 Ferne Drive, Kittanning, Pa. died Wednesday,
November 29, 2000 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin
Township.

He was born May 9, 1924 in Adrian to William J. and Garnett Elizabeth (Irwin)
Croyle.

He attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington Pa.

Mr. Croyle was the chief of accounting for the U.S. Department of Transportation
in Washington, D.C. He also was the owner of a Dodge-Plymouth car dealership in
Saltsburg, Pa. from 1951-54, controller for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. for Los
Angeles and Pittsburgh from 1954-62 and an accounting officer with the Federal
Aviation Administration in Hawaii from 1962-72.

He developed the direct deposit concept for the federal government, which is now
commonly used in many businesses.

An Army Air Force veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Freeport, Pa.

His other memberships included the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge of Kittanning, Pa. and
Moose Club of Fayetteville, Ark.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Deloris P. (Kirkwood) Croyle, whom he
married Sept.. 9, 1943; one daughter, Janice L. Richey of Fayetteville, Ark.;
one grandson, Scott; one granddaughter, Brianna; two brothers, Donald J. Croyle
of Altamonte Springs, Fla, and Gary Eugene Croyle of St. Augustine, Fla.; and
one sister, Mrs. Kay F. (Francis) Huth of Apopka, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his father, who died April 30, 1980; his mother, who
died Nov. 6, 2000; one son, William A. Croyle Jr., who died Jan 6, 1992; and one
granddaughter, Ashley Croyle, who died in 1986.

Friends of William A. Croyle, 76, of 706 Ferne Drive, Kittanning, who died Nov.
29, 2000, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Bauer
Funeral Home, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning, where funeral services will be held
at 1 p.m. Saturday with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Daniel A. Stinson,
officiating.

Interment in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, Pa.
