Jay Francis Steele SR

Jay Francis Steele Sr., 78, of Austin, Tex., formerly of Lower Burrell and
Kittanning (North Buffalo Township), Pa., died Wednesday (April 11, 2001) in
Duval Oaks Guest Home, Austin, Tex.

He was born May 5, 1922, (North Buffalo Township), Kittanning, Pa., to Milton H.
and Anna M. (Grafton) Steele.

Jay graduated with the Class of 1941 from Worthington-West Franklin High School,
Worthington, Pa.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the infantry and was awarded the
Purple Heart.

Mr. Steele was a member of the Alle-Kiski Valley Military Order of the Purple
Heart and the Disabled American Veterans.

He retired in 1984 after 34 years with Allegheny Ludlum Steel, Brackenridge,
Pa., where he was a supervisor in the shipping control division.

He lived in Lower Burrell, Pa. for 45 years before moving to Tex. to be close to
his daughter.

Survivors include; a son, Rev. Jay. F. Steele, Jr., of Wacomia, Minn.; a
daughter, Maryann Ruddock of Austin, Tex.; three grandchildren; two brothers,
Delbert Ralston Steele of Butler, Pa., and Herbert Keith Steele of (Slate Lick),
Kittanning, Pa.; five sisters, Mrs. Leslie C. (Ethel M.) Steele of Slate Lick,
Mrs. Tony (Alice) Gallo and Mrs. George A. (Edith M.) Mauthe, both of Cadogan,
Pa., Mrs. Darl (Elizabeth "Betty") Brocious of Worthington and Mrs. C. Robert
(Susan Jane) Stitt of Elderton, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Costantino, in 1987; his parents,
Milton H. and Anna M. (Grafton) Steele, a brother, Earnest Grafton and an infant
sister, Anna June Steele.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Monday in the Frank F.
Gigler Funeral Home, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, Pa. Services will be
held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Warren V. Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alle-Kiski Valley Military Order of
the Purple Heart No. 519, 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, Pa., 15068.
