Emerson Reid Morrison

Emerson Reid Morrison, 87, of Worthington, died Saturday, September 19, 2009, at
Meadow Lake Manor, Sugarcreek Township. 

He was born October 10, 1921, in Timblin, Jefferson County, a son of Ralph C and
Gwennie (Davis) Morrison .

He attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa. 

He was the husband of Mary Marjorie "Marge" Morrison, who died in 2003. 

Reid and Marge had four children, three of which died at or soon after birth.
Reid was a truck driver, railroad worker and a heavy equipment operator for
several local firms prior to his retirement. He worked for the Graff-Kittanning
Clay Products and various local mining companies. 

Reid was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army from 1944 through
1946 in the Pacific. He served successively in the Philippines and with the
occupation forces in Japan. He was discharged as a staff sergeant with the
Combat Infantryman's Badge and several campaign ribbons. 

Reid was a member of the Craigsville Methodist Church, a past member of the
Worthington Lions Club and a longtime member of the American Legion. He had
served as the post commander of the Worthington American Legion Post 828, county
commander and district vice commander of American Legion District 27. He was
also a member of the American Legion Honor Guard for Armstrong County for many
years. He was a dedicated patriot who loved his country. 

Surviving are his daughter, Gwennie, married to Frank Williams, of Hanover, Md.;
four grandchildren, Pamela Armstrong, of Pittsburgh, Randy Williams, of
Chesapeake, Va., Michael Williams, of Florence, S.C., and Jeffrey Williams, of
Crofton, Md.; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. 

Reid's sister, Margaret Thompson, and his brothers, William, David, Leroy and
Samuel, are deceased. He also had an infant brother who died six days after
birth. 

Several nieces and nephews survive. His surviving brothers-in-law are the Rev.
Earl Watterson, of Worthington, and Clarence Watterson, of Manorville. His
sister-in-law, Emma Jean Buzzard, lives in Cape Coral, Fla. 

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the F. DUANE
SNYDER FUNERAL HOME in Worthington. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday
at the funeral home with additional visitation one hour prior to the service. 

Internment in Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery, Worthington, Pa.
