Robert Clair Ross SR
Robert Clair Ross Sr., of 1301 Briarville Drive, Urbana, Il., former director of
the Champaign County Civil Defense Office, died Saturday afternoon, March 10,
1979, at home.
He was born January 30, 1921, in Vandergrift, Pa., a son of James Milton and
Govinda Geneva (Loring) Ross.
He attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa.
Mr. Ross served in the U.S. Air Force from 1940-1961, reaching the rank of
captain. He was Champaign County Civil Defencse director from 1962 to 1977,
when he retired for medical reasons.
He was a member of Urbana Lodge 157 AF & AM, the Moose Lodge and the Weber
Street Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife Betty (Wright), whom he married on November 2, 1940,
in St. Charles, Mo., one son, Robert and sisters Margaret Lowry of Urbana and
Miriam Larson of Concord, Ca., five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceased by his parents.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Weaver-Henderson Funeral in
Urbana. Funerals services will be Tuesaday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jack
Rampelberg officiating.
