Elmer Stewart Hindman

Elmer Stewart Hindman, 87, of Worthington, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in
Forbes Road Rehabilitation in Pittsburgh. 

He was born May 11, 1919, in Armstrong County, to the late Carr Stewart and
Laura Jane (McMillan) Hindman.

He attended school in Worthington, PA. 

He retired from Freeport Transport in 1991 and was a member of the Worthington
American Legion. 

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as staff sergeant with the 818th
Tank Destroyer Battalion from Feb. 1, 1941 to Oct. 12, 1945. He served in
Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was
awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service
Medal with five Bronze Stars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret
(Bush) Hindman, whom he married on Oct. 9, 1942, in Virginia, and passed away on
Dec. 22, 2005; brothers, Frank, George, Paul and James Hindman; and a sister,
Ellen McCrea.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra L. Tarr, of Worthington, and Linda L.
Roycroft, of Worthington; granddaughters, Tracey L. Custer, Kristen Claypoole
and Wendi Sue Brink, all of Worthington; a grandson, Scott Guminey, of
Kittanning; nine great-grandchildren, Nicolas Custer, Zachary Custer, Nicole
Claypoole, Rhonda Claypoole, Taylor Claypoole, Alyssa Brink, Kyleigh Brink,
Sierra Guminey and Gavin Guminey. 
 

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the
F. DUANE SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, Worthington, where services will be held 11 a.m.
Saturday with the Rev. Earl Watterson officiating. 

Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, PA.
