Charles Lewis Cooper

Charles Lewis Cooper, 80, of Indiana, died Monday, November 22, 1999, at Indiana
Hospital, Indiana, Pa.

Born June 22, 1919, in the Craigsville area of Armstrong County, he was the son
of Orion E. and Ethel May (Lewis) Cooper.

He was a 1937 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington,
Pa.

He was a member of the Graystone Presbyterian Church and had served as an elder
for the past six years. He was a member of the Indiana Kiwanis Club for more
than 30 years and had served as past president and a member of the board for
several years. He had also served on the Indiana Red Cross Board.

He served in World War II for more than four years and was a naval air-craft
pilot during the entire Aleutian Campaign, followed by duty in the Pacific
Theatre.

Dr. Cooper was a professor of Accounting at IUP for 20 years before retiring on
Dec. 31, 1982. He was the original chairman of the Business Management
Department when the School of Business was formed at IUP. Prior to IUP he was a
member of the Accounting Department at the University of Pittsburgh for eight
years and served as assistant to the dean for a short time. He was also a member
of the Accounting Department at Potomac State College of West Virginia
University for seven years prior to moving to the University of Pittsburgh.

Surviving are his wife, M. Lucille (Porter) Cooper, whom he married on June 21,
1946; one daughter, Doreen Long, Bradford, Pa.; a son, Charles E. and wife,
Debra, Centre Hall, Pa.; a granddaughter, Tessa; a grandson, Patrick; a
step-granddaughter, Marni; two brothers, James Lovel Cooper, Cleveland, Ohio,
and Harold Dean Cooper, Kittanning, Pa.; one sister, Mary Lou Beattie, Bryan,
Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lucie I. Cooper and
Norma Marie (Cooper) Bowser, and a brother, Edgar Cooper.

Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the
Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where services will be held at 11:30 a.m.
Friday. The Rev. Dr. Roger D. Petersen will officiate and internment will be
private.
