Margaret Elizabeth Collar John
Margaret Elizabeth Collar John, 79, of East Brady, Pa. and Clearview Rest and
Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, Pa. died Thursday, February 15, 1996, at Clarion
Hospital, Clarion, Pa.
Born, May 11, 1916, in West Franklin Township (Armstrong County), Pa., she was
the daughter of Walter T. and Sarah Jane (Wolfe) Collar.
A 1935 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa.
Following graduation from high school, she worked for Montgomery Ward in
Kittanning, Pa. In the 1950s, she studied food management and operated a
catering service with a friend. She then worked as manager of Pecan's Restaurant
for five years. She then became manager of the Kittanning Senior High School
kitchen and, at the time of her retirement, was food service manager for the
entire school district.
Mrs. John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of East Brady, Pa.,
where she belonged to the Caring Women's Association. She also belonged to the
Clarion County Garden Club, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 230 of New Bethlehem,
Pa., and a founding member of the Kit-Ha-Ne Chapter of the Questers in
Kittanning. Her home was a host home for exchange students.
In October 1995, she was presented with Lifetime Achievement Award by Unicorn
Health Facilities for having dedicated her life to serving her county,
community, family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Frank W. John of East Brady, whom she married
June 13, 1937; a son, William W. John of East Brady; two daughters, Judith Ann
Montgomery, of Butler, Pa., and Lucinda Jean Lerch, of Clarion; a brother, John
Arthur Collar, of RD., Kittanning; a sister Eleanor Jane Davis, of Butler Rd.,
Kittanning; 11 grandchildren, Stephen John, Jason John, Adam John, David
Montgomery, Ann Montgomery, Jennifer Montgomery, Amy Hanford, Scott Lerch,
Matthew Lerch, Tiffany Lewis, and Brandon Lerch; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parent; two brothers, Richard E. Collar and
Harry E. Collar; and a great-grandson.
Friends of Margaret Elizabeth Collar John, 79, of East Brady, Pa. who died
Thursday, February 15, 1996, will be received from 7 to 9 today and 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Charles B. Buechele Funeral Home, 105 Fourth St., East
Brady. Visitation will also be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 1996,
at the First Presbyterian Church of East Brady. Funeral services will follow at
2 p.m. Sunday at the church, with her pastor, the Rev. Sue Ann Murray,
officiating.
Burial will be in Worthington Lutheran Church Cemetery, Worthington, Pa.
