William Richard Beers SR

William Richard "Dick" Beers, Sr., 75, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., died Thursday,
November. 19, 1992 at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W..Va.

Born September 16, 1917 in Plumville, Pa., he was the son of William M. and
Twyla B. (Armstrong) Beers.

Dick was a 1935 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington,
Pa.

He retired after 43 years with U.S. Steel Corp. in Millville, W.Va.

He was a former member of the Worthington, Pa., Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 948, Charles Town; member
of Jackson-Perks American Legion Post No. 71, Charles Town; Charles Town VFW
Memorial Post No. 3522 and former member of the Charles Town Lions Club, all in
W. Va.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Dorothy "Dot" A. (Troutner) Beers at home;
one son, William R. "Butch" Beers, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Paule Beers, both
of Edmonds, Washington; three grandchildren, Sally Anne Beers, John Alain Beers,
Natalie Anne Beers; and one sister, Grace Eleanor Toni of Niagara Falls, New
York.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Winifred V. Shearer.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 at the Melvin T.
Strider Colonial Home, Charles Town and from 7 to 9 p.m Sunday, Nov. 22 at the
F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral
Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington, Pa., with the Rev. Kirk W. Bish officiating.

Interment will be in the Worthington Lutheran Church Cemetery, Worthington, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson memorial Hospital, 300 South
Preston St., Ranson, W.Va. 25438 or the Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.

With The Army Air Force Engineer Command In Italy: 1945

William R. Beers, son of Mr. and Mrs William M. Beers, Worthington,
Pennsylvania, was recently promoted to the rank of Corporal.

Corporal Beers, formerly employed by the Pittsburgh Limestone Corporation,
(Buffalo Valley) Worthington, is a construction foreman with an aviation
engineer unit which builds bases for Allied air power in Italy. He entered the
service November 1943, and joined his present outfit overseas. He has seen seven
month's of active duty in Corsica, France, and Italy, and wears two battle
participation stars on his European-African-Middle East Campaign ribbon.

The new corporals wife, Dorothy, and five-year-old son, William Jr., reside in
Worthington.
