Raymond Alfred Shields SR

Raymond Alfred Shields Sr., 95, of Kittanning, died Saturday, October 22, 2011,
at home. Ray went peacefully to his eternal home, surrounded by his wife and
family members. 

Born January 7, 1916, in Worthington, he was a son of the late Alfred Boyd
Shields and Grace Anderson (Wray) Shields.

He attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa. 

A resident of Kittanning since 2003, he resided in Worthington for most of his
life. He was a member of Worthington Presbyterian Church for 82 years, where he
was a trustee and elder for many years. 

He was a self-employed farmer for 80 years; a school bus driver for Shriver Bus
Co. for 25 years; and worked as a security guard for 15 years for Allied
Security. Ray loved to travel, especially to a county fair and to visit his
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Mary E. (Fugh) Shields; two brothers,
James Arthur Shields and Carl E. Shields, both of Worthington; two sons, Raymond
A. Shields Jr. (Janet), of Kissimmee, Fla., and Dr. Harry E. Shields (Carol), of
Appleton, Wis.; grandchildren, Bradley S. Shields (Lori), of Indiana, Pa.,
Sherry L. Shearer (Brian), of Ellwood City, Mark A. Shields (Bree), of
Singapore, Singapore, Dr. Paul E. Shields (Vicki), of Erie, Philip B. Shields
(Angee), of Mackinaw, Ill., and Andrew Shields (Nicole), of Winfield, Ill.;
daughter-in-law, Sandra Shields, of Worthington; and stepgrandchildren, Clinton
Fair and Naomi Grega, both of Ohio. Raymond is also survived by 10
great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret
Claypoole, Hazel Van Dyke and Janet Shields; a brother, Robert Shields; and
three infant siblings. 

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at F. DUANE SNYDER
FUNERAL HOME, in Worthington. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday in Worthington Presbyterian Church, with additional visitation at the
church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. The Rev. Rodney Murray, his
church pastor, will officiate. 

Interment in Worthington Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Worthington, Pa.
