John Wilson Shearer

John Wilson Shearer, 94, of Sebastian, Fla, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 in
Sebastian River Medical Center.

He was born at home May 4, 1914, in North Buffalo Township (Sistersville),
Kittanning, Pa., son of the late Albert Hepler Shearer and Bessie Alice
(Ruffaner) Shearer.

He started high school in Kittanning, Pa. When the new high school opened in
Worthington, he transferred to Worthington. He graduated with the first
graduating (Class of 1933) from Worthington-West Franklin High School,
Worthington, Pa.

He married his high-school sweetheart, Bernice Mae Nichol, November 3, 1937. She
was also a 1933 Worthington-West Franklin High School graduate. He and his wife
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary November 3, 1987, six months prior to
her death, March 1988.

In his earlier work history, he worked as a meat cutter in Turtle Creek, Pa.,
and the A&P Tea Company in Ford City, Pa. In the later years of the 1940s, he
worked as a foreman for the Aluminum Ladder Co, Worthington, Pa. In 1950, he
moved his family to Buffalo, NY and worked as a machinist for Lake Erie
Engineering. While working for Lake Erie Engineering, he attended Buffalo Bible
Institute. In 1953, he moved his family to Marietta, Ga., and started working
for Lockheed's Georgia Division. He retired in 1978 after 25 years with Lockheed
Aircraft.

After his retirement, he and his wife visited the Florida's Atlantic Coast
during the winter months for several years and then officially moved to
Sebastian, Fla., December 1980.

John loved his immediate family and his extended family in Christ. In his
younger years, he liked to grow vegetables in his garden and go fishing.

He was of the Baptist Faith and faithful to the Lord and loved spreading the
Word of God. In his retirement he was associated with Gideon Bibles and enjoyed
sharing Gods Word.

He wife, Bernice, passed away May 13, 1988. Mr. Shearer married, Mildred Kistner
Branthoover.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Shearer; one son, John Clair (Brenda)
Shearer, Woodstock, Ga.; two daughters, Lois Mae (Donald M.) Sitton, Orange,
Tex, Noreen Joyce (R. Earl) Gossage, Marietta, Ga.; four grandsons, David Keith
Shearer, Kevin Damon Sitton, Dustin Ramon Sitton, Thomas Albert Gossage; two
granddaughters, Melanee Joyce Welch and Pamela Dawn Howell; six
great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two brothers, W. Richard Shearer, of Washington, Pa., and
J. Robert Shearer, of Kittanning, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by; four brothers, Kenneth
C. Shearer, Vernon F. Shearer, Alton L. Shearer and Albert H. Shearer Jr.; five
sisters, S. Annabel Bouch-Lash, Ethel L. Nichol, Doris A. Cowan-Lash, Melda M.
Bricker and Eyvette R. Fair; and two great-grandchildren, Britany and Kody
Moore.

The funeral was held, Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral
Home, 2000 Cobb Pkwy SE, Marietta, Ga.

Interment in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta, Ga.
