William Russell Schwartz

William Russell Schwartz, 68, of Gettysburg R.D. 2, Pa, died Wednesday
afternoon, August 11, 1982 at his home.

He was born July 18, 1914 in Worthington, Pa., the son of the late William W.
and Maude (McElhaney) Schwartz.

He was a member of the first graduating class of Worthington High School.

He owned and operated Schwartz Washette on Water St. in Gettysburg for a number
of years.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he was active as a Sunday School
teacher; served on the church council; treasurer; a member of the Men of the
Church; and served as a cub-master at the church.

He was a member of the Gettysburg Lions Club and served as its secretary for a
number of years and was also the club's fund raising chairman.

He had been county solicitation for the American Cancer Crusade.

Mr. Schwartz was an Army veteran of World War II and saw action in the Pacific
Theatre.

Survivors include his wife, the former Marjorie (Sorrick) Schwartz; four
children, Raymond R. Schwartz of Dexter, Mich., M. Lenore Schwartz of Elko,
Nev., J. William Schwartz of Fleetwood, Pa., and Stephen S. Schwartz of
Gettysburg, Pa.
