Bernice Mae Nichol Shearer

Bernice Mae (Nichol) Shearer, 72, of Sebastian, Fla., passed away May 13, 1988,
in Sebastian River Memorial Hospital after being diagnosed with advanced breast
cancer which metastasized throughout her body.

Born in March 2, 1916 in West-Franklin Township (Lairds Crossing/Craigsville)
Pa. on the Nichol Family Farm, to the late Herbert Joshua Nichol and Cora Mae
(Edwards) Nichol.

She graduated with the first graduating (Class in 1933) from Worthington-West
Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa. She married John Wilson Shearer, November
3, 1937. He was also a 1933 Worthington-West Franklin High School graduate.

She was an avid homemaker and dearly loved her family and living for the Lord.
She loved to cook, can and freeze the fruits of harvest from their garden. She
loved to paint and sew and was an excellent seamstress. She loved to plant
flowers and could name many plants and birds.

She was of the Baptist Faith and loved going to church. She taught Bible study
and Sunday School. She played hand bells, the piano and sang in the church
choir.

She and her husband moved with their family from the Worthington area to
Buffalo, New York, in 1950. In 1953, they moved to Atlanta, Ga. She lived nearly
27 years near and in Marietta, Ga., where she and her husband raised their three
children. After her husband retired, they moved to Sebastian, Fla. in Dec.
1980.

Survivors include her husband, John Wilson Shearer; one son, John Clair (Brenda
J. Vaughn) Shearer, Woodstock, Ga.; two daughters, Lois Mae (Donald M.) Sitton,
Bartlesville, Okla, Noreen Joyce (Renus Earl) Gossage, Marietta, Ga.; four
grandsons, David Keith Shearer, Kevin Damon Sitton, Dustin Ramon Sitton, Thomas
Albert Gossage; two granddaughters, Melanee Joyce Moore and Pamela Dawn
Shearer.

She is also survived by one brother, Omer W. (Ethel L.) Nichol and one sister,
Pearl E. Dimit both of Worthington, Pa.; one sister-in-law, Margaret E. Nichol
of Bradys Bend, Pa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by; two brothers, Earl
Herbert Nichol and Jesse Irwin Nichol.; one sister-in-law, Pauline (Marini)
Nichol.

Her funeral was held May, 1988, at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2000 Cobb
Pkwy SE, Marietta, Ga.
