John Francis Drake

John Francis Drake, 78, of Keystone Heights, Florida died Sunday, March 21,
1993, in his residence in An Woods following an extended illness. He had moved
to Keystone Heights in 1980 from Miami, Florida.
 
Born January 30, 1915, in Worthington, he was the son of Frank C. and Edna G.
(Kison) Drake.

He was a 1933 graduate of Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington,
Pa.
 
Mr. Drake served in WW II as a flight instructor and co-pilot flying
reconnaissance missions from Guadal Canal. He retired from the Navy Reserves as
a Commander.
 
Mr. Drake was retired from Dade County Elementary (Florida), where he served as
principal for 37 years. He successfully guided the first integrated faculty in
the State of Florida, at Earlington Heights Elementary School. He also worked
with dependent and delinquent minors at Bougainvilla School, where he
implemented an often copied point system by which students were able to achieve
their goals.
 
When he retired in 1979 after his 37 years, he dreamed of building a retirement
home in Keystone Heights, and for many years belonged to and played golf at the
Keystone Golf and Country Club. He was past President of Perrine Rotary Club in
Miami. He was of the Protestant faith.
 
Survivors include; his wife, Rollo Sierra Drake of Keystone Heights; two
daughters, Paula Lee Drake of Gainesville, Fl., and Carole Hanna Miller of
Miami; a son, John F. Drake, Jr. of Troy, Mich. and three grandchildren, Sally
Hanna Felcoski of Miami and Jennifer Lynn and Lance Patrick Drake of Troy,
Mich.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Everett Drake (Apr.
20, 1959), Harvey Arthur Drake (Oct. 26, 1988); one sister, E. Carolyn Coldren
(Sept. 16, 1995).
 
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
