Ruth M Claypoole

Ruth M. Claypoole, 93, of Worthington, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010. 

She was born Nov. 10, 1917, in Indiana, Pa., to Abraham Cox and Mabel (Fyock)
Cox. 

Ruth was a 1939 graduate of Indiana State Teachers College (now IUP) and did
graduate work at Duke University and IUP. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha
sorority. 

She began her teaching career in Clymer and Ligonier. In 1959, she accepted a
full-time position at Worthington Elementary and later transferred to West Hills
when it opened. 

She enjoyed her many years of teaching and her many students but after 31 years
of service, she retired in 1983. 

During her years as a member of Worthington Evangelical Lutheran Church, she
served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Alter Guild, Women of ELCA and
Gleaners Class. She was also a member of the Kittanning Women's Club and a
one-time board member of the Worthington Library. 

Ruth is survived by a son, Roger H. Claypoole and wife, Barbara, of Worthington;
and daughter, Barbara A. Yockey and husband, Roy, of Cowansville. Completing her
family were four grandchildren, Julie (Josh) Doverspike, Brian (Angel)
Claypoole, Jacob Yockey and Cary Yockey; and four great-grandchildren, Brittany
and Tiffany Doverspike, and Lincoln and Roman Claypoole. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Claypoole, whom she married
Aug. 7, 1943, and died Sept. 23, 1999. Also preceding her in death was a
brother, William Cox; and sisters, Marlan Burchfield, Bess Cox and Mary
Sigfried. 

There will be no public visitation. 

Burial at Lawn Haven Estates, Worthington, Pa., at the family's convenience.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Worthington Library.
