Ernest E Sendry

Ernest E. Sendry, 83, of Washington Township, died Thursday, September 1, 2011,
in his residence. 

He was born October 13, 1927, in Leechburg, to Steve Sendry Sr. and Elizabeth
(Toth) Sendry. 

Mr. Sendry was a secondary school teacher for Leechburg Area School District,
where he taught chemistry and later served as a guidance counselor. He also
coached Leechburg High School football, basketball and baseball. He retired in
1985 following 35 years of service. 

He also was a chemist for Penn Glenn Oil Works, in New Kensington, for 17 years,
and was an Army veteran of World War II. 

He was a member of Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, in Leechburg. He
helped found the PSER, was a member of the VFW of Vandergrift, and member and
past exalted ruler of the Leechburg Lodge BPOE. 

He was a 1945 graduate of Leechburg High School, 1951 graduate of Indiana
University with his bachelor's degree, and 1955 graduate of University of
Pittsburgh with his master's degree. 

Mr. Sendry enjoyed playing golf, working crossword puzzles and playing solitaire
on his computer. 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Ruth (Roberts) Sendry; three
daughters, Barbara J. Turiak, of Vandergrift, Carol A. (Peter) King, of
Allegheny Township, and Mary B. Wolfe, of Lewistown; grandson, Aaron R. Wolfe;
three stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve
Sendry and Andrew Sendry Sr.; and sisters, Elizabeth Huffman and Charlotte
Bonello. 

Friends will be welcomed by his family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in CLAWSON'S, 170
Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, where his funeral ceremonies will be held at
11 a.m. Monday. Officiating will be his pastors, The Revs. Gary J. and Lisa
Lyon. 

Interment will be made at the convenience of his family, with full military
honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard, in Greenwood Memorial
Park, Lower Burrell, Pa. 

The Leechburg Elks will conduct an Elk service at 1:45 p.m. Sunday in the
funeral home. 

Mr. Sendry's family encourages memorials be made in his memory to the visiting
nurses project of the Leechburg Elks or to the Leechburg Public Library.
