Harry William Bassett
 
Harry William Bassett, 84, passed away June 9, 2010 in Fairfield, Calif. He was
laid to rest at Tulocay Cemetery, 411 Coombsville Road, Napa, Cali. alongside
his wife, Becky.
 
Harry was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on April 27, 1926, to Harry and Mabel B.
(Keep) Bassett. 

He served in World War II in the Navy as part of the Pacific Fleet. 

He attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College, Slippery Rock, Pa. He played
on their football team and graduated with a teaching degree in 1951. Slippery
Rock was always dear to his heart.
 
While in college, Harry met Mary (Becky) Chambers. They were married in 1951 and
had four children. 

He taught Pennsylvania history, civics, physical education and helped coach
basketball and baseball in 1952 and 1953 at Worthington-West Franklin High
School, Worthington, Pa. He taught history and driver's training in western
Pennsylvania and then at Napa and Vintage High schools. He coached and
officiated football, basketball and track. 
Attending sporting events was always a favorite pastime.
 
Harry was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Napa since the mid-1960s and
was an active member of the church's choir throughout the years. He enjoyed
going to concerts of all musical styles and his love of music is a legacy that
is enjoyed be the remaining generations of his family.
 
After retirement, Harry became involved with the Napa Food Bank and Meals on
Wheels. He always felt contributing to the community was important and
gratifying. He and his partner, Bernice Clark, spent many years together and
traveled around the country.
 
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, wife (1989) and numerous aunts and
uncles. 

He is survived by his daughters, Gail and Dawn, and sons, Scott and wife Kelly,
and Alan and wife Gloria, along with his seven granddaughters, Carey, Jennifer,
Lisa, Cynthia, Renee, Kimberley, Marcia and husband Shukri.
 
A celebration of Harry's life will be held at Napa's Presbyterian Church on July
25, 2010 at 3 p.m.
 
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Harry's name to the First
Presbyterian Church Choir, Napa Meals on Wheels or Napa Food Bank.

Burial in  Tulocay Cemetery, Napa, CA.
